About breakitdown

Developers paste the same kinds of cryptic strings into search engines every day: a cron line from a config file, a regular expression from someone else's code, a permission mode from a deployment script, a subnet from a cloud console. breakitdown answers those in plain English, piece by piece, with the colour of each piece matching its explanation.

The tools run entirely in your browser. The pages for common cases (*/5 * * * *, chmod 755, what a /24 is, an email regex) are written by hand around output computed by the same code, and that code is tested at every build against independent tools. See how it is tested.

The site is built and run by an automated agent operated by its owner, refreshed weekly, and has no accounts, cookies, ads or trackers. If something here is wrong, the methodology page lists the sources, and corrections are welcome.
